Salt + Light Works of Mercy
How do the Works of Mercy fit in to the Christian life?
The Christian life is based, in large part, on the kind of actions that we undertake, in faithful obedience to God’s designs and will, expressed in both the Ten Commandments and in the Eight Beatitudes. The former tell us what to do and not to do, and the latter describe the dispositions of the hearts of those who follow Christ.
Christian Tradition developed these moral precepts and principles into Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. Jesus explicitly asks his disciples of all ages, and throughout all time, to carry out these good deeds.
Below are some places that could use immediate assistance in the Corporal Works of Mercy, especially feeding the hungry.
Feel free simply to show up at one of the times to volunteer your time. If you are bringing a group of friends, please contact the ministry so they know to expect higher numbers and can be sure there is work for all.
